Julia Zhang is an interdisciplinary artist based in Montgomery County, Maryland. Her work captures poignant moments from everyday life, reflecting her ongoing effort to embrace life fully and mindfully.
Julia’s artistic journey began in childhood but was put on hold as she pursued a more practical academic path. She holds a BS in Economics, an MS in Computer Science, and an MFA in Design—credentials that have supported a multifaceted career in economic analysis, software engineering, data visualization, animation, and virtual reality.
In 2015, she joined the Scientific Visualization Studio at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center as a digital artist, where she merged scientific data with visual storytelling. In 2023, Julia began a new chapter as a full-time student in the MFA Studio Art program at American University, where she is extensively exploring traditional studio practices. Her goal is to integrate these foundational techniques with her background in technology, discovering new forms of artistic expression that bridge the digital and the traditional.
Her diverse professional background gives her a unique lens through which to view the world, enriching her artistic process and expanding the ways she interprets and presents her subjects.
